Our Why
For me, spending time with my horses was a space where I felt safe, grounded, and at home. Over time, I came to understand that those experiences were actually supporting my nervous system—helping me cope, regulate, and heal. I learned many valuable lessons through working with horses that carried over into my everyday life.
Through personal experience, professional work, and research, I have seen that many others experience similar outcomes. Time and time again, people come into this space and walk away with their own insights—learning things about themselves that couldn’t be taught in a traditional setting. Seeing those moments of growth, connection, and self-discovery is what makes this work so powerful.
Compass Equine Learning was created to help people wherever they are on their journey. We offer group and individual sessions that create a space for people to build connections, find support, heal, and develop skills for a more fulfilling life.
How We Help
Life is built on relationships—how we connect with ourselves, other people, and our environment. Our approach is experiential, meaning participants don’t just talk about change—they experience it. Through guided interactions with horses, you have the opportunity to notice your own patterns, emotions, and responses. You can then draw meaning from those experiences in a way that is personal and lasting.
Because horses respond honestly and without judgment, they create a unique space where you can safely explore yourself, practice new skills, and build connections. We make sure you have the right support for your journey. You will have wonderful horses to build relationships with and, depending on your course, you will work with facilitators, peer specialists, or licensed mental health professionals.
Skills That Support Growth and Healing
Research and experience show that equine-facilitated work can help people develop skills such as:
Identifying and regulating emotions
Building healthy relationships, boundaries, and communication skills
Increasing self-awareness and body (somatic) awareness
Regulating the nervous system
Practicing mindfulness and staying present
Building confidence, resilience, and trust
These skills support everyday wellbeing and are also known to protect against challenges like substance use, disconnection, and stress.
Support for Where You Are
People come to Compass Equine Learning for different reasons—and all are welcome.
Whether you choose a group or individual session, we meet you where you are.
Some people are looking for a fun, meaningful experience where they can learn more about themselves, build confidence, and connect with others in a relaxed, outdoor environment.
Others are seeking deeper support as they work through stress, trauma, loss, unhealthy coping patterns, and other life challenges. In those cases, we offer additional guidance through peer support and licensed mental health professionals.
No matter where you start, we are here to support you and help you find your True North.
A Place to Grow and Reconnect
Compass Equine Learning is more than a program—it’s a space where growth happens, where people feel supported, and where connections are built. We strive to create a community where you can develop lifelong skills and build “lifelines.” These are the relationships and tools you can rely on long after your session ends.
Because the truth is, we all fall down. We all make mistakes. But we can all learn, grow, and move forward—together.
